Early Years

Early Years provides education to children aged 0-5 and Early Years providers must meet the duties set out in Chapter 5 of the SEND Code of Practice 0-25.

This chapter explains what they should do in order to identify Special Educational Needs as well as identifying how they should make provision to support child.

If your child is in an Early Years setting then this information will also help you to know what your provider should be doing and will help to give you the information you need to help support your child and make informed choices relating to their Special Educational Needs.

The provision should ALWAYS be focused around outcomes and should be reviewed regularly as described in the Code of Practice.

REMEMBER – These duties apply whether your child has an Education, Health and Care (EHC) Plan or not.
